Hello friends! BIG THANKS to all you lovelies who subscribed from seeing me at the Flea Valentine Market, and to our loyal supporters who came by the booth. Having ya’ll on my team is the best ever Valentine!
Some of you may have caught my recent appearance on Spectrum News 1 in Louisville or Lexington. Thanks for spreading the word about it and getting excited with me. The best part was that so many folks are interested in, and supportive of, this project. I’m so grateful.
I’ll also be at the Dowling House Market on March 21, 12pm-4pm, at Dowling Hall in Lawrenceburg, KY. I will have tons of new earrings, pendants, and keychains, all made with century-old post office documents. They’re also available in the OSPO shop.
Since, my last big update on historical discoveries at the P.O., I have discovered so much! And I have a lot of historical nerdery and other delightful content coming your way.
In fact, this month, I’ll be posting one minute of new content every day, as part of our Community Funding Campaign. In addition to being rich content, each post will also include a takeaway for viewers (like a giveaway or shop discount code). So please (please? PLEASE) follow and repost on Insta, Facebook, or Threads. Remember, he OSPO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, so every donation is tax-deductible, and every repost helps.
Here’s the thing: I could choose to monetize the OSPO socials, and create paid subscriptions for others to see these undiscovered historical finds. I could make folks pay to access the Name Index or to acquire from me an OSPO artifact with their ancestor’s name on it. All those things take time and money to create and maintain, but I absorb that cost, because, as a person who grew up “robbing Peter to pay Paul,” it’s important to me that this community and these elements of it, remain acessible to everyone, regardless of income level.
My hope instead is that, by demonstrating the value of the work I’m doing, of protecting unseen history, promoting literacy, and building community, I will earn the investment of the community at large.
